VALUE OF COMPETENCY-BASED LEADERSHIP CAPABILITY ASSESSMENT

(Read Profile - Ms Evelyn E L Ch'ng, PJK.,JP) The CARP competency-based leadership capability profile tool illustrates and explains the way a person prefers to think, learn, communicate and make decisions. As the individual interacts with the world at large, different environment affects his/her behavior. We are of the view that a person’s work behavior is a function of both his/her personality and the environment the individual operations in. This is represented below with a general formula. B = f (P, S) where - BEHAVIOR = f (Personality x Situation) We can predict behavior when we know BOTH the elements. Understanding an individual’s personal thinking preferences will enable the person to optimize his/her ability to adapt the thinking, decision-making or communication styles to any given situations. It also explains why it is easier to communicate with some people than it is with others. The profile will also cast light on why some elements of the individual’s ability to perform or work seem effortless and more satisfying whilst other aspects frustrate the person. The profile is NOT a test. There are no right or wrong answers and no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ profiles. The tool does not measure intelligence or skills. A low score in a given area does not indicate inability to perform – frequently people are able to perform when the environment is conducive to performance or when extra efforts are made. The profile provides an individual with a better understanding of his/her personal potential and areas for improvement to enhance performance.
